Our role: Lead designer, space planning
The CIDB Headquarters reimagines the corporate office as a living showcase of Malaysia’s construction excellence. Spanning 19 floors and 175,000 sqft, it embodies CIDB’s mission to regulate, develop, and elevate the industry. The design boldly celebrates construction materials and craftsmanship, challenging traditional perceptions of public-sector spaces. Rooted in Malaysian heritage, it integrates cultural elements with modern aesthetics, promoting sustainability and identity. More than a workplace for over 600 staff, it fosters collaboration, community, and innovation setting a new benchmark for government offices and reinforcing CIDB’s role as a dynamic leader in the built environment.
The design is guided by three strategic pillars: Construction Craftsmanship, Sustainability, and Collaborative Functionality. Every design element serves to reinforce CIDB’s role as the custodian of the Malaysian construction industry.
A curated material palette of raw concrete, steel, sustainable timber, and locally crafted finishes celebrates construction excellence and reflects the Construction Industry Standards. Traditional Malaysian motifs such as woven bamboo panels and songket-inspired feature walls are reinterpreted in a contemporary context, creating a visual narrative that connects cultural heritage with progressive values.
Spatial planning across all office floors balances transparency, hierarchy, and equity. The layout aligns with the Malaysian government grade system while ensuring universal access to daylight, privacy, and views. Meeting rooms are fully equipped with AV tech and integrated with CIDB’s digital booking system, enabling seamless collaboration. A range of work zones including open-plan workstations, quiet pods, private offices, and corridor nook pods support different working styles.
The common office floors embody the headquarters’ philosophy: to transform standard workspaces into vibrant environments for knowledge sharing and community building. Shared pantries, interactive company walls, and visible safety equipment displays reinforce social connectivity and operational safety.
The Common Facilities Floor acts as a wellness hub, featuring male and female gyms, a karaoke room, jamming studio, cafeteria, and surau. These spaces use bold colour palettes and natural textures to create atmospheres of energy, calm, and cultural familiarity.
Executive floors feature refined materials—dark wood, marble, and gold accents—and include private offices, a boardroom, and a heritage-focused show gallery.
Every spatial decision, material choice, and layout strategy is grounded in the goals of comfort, health, and performance, while meeting the industry’s national standards for acoustics, lighting, energy use, and ergonomics.
This is a high-performing space that effectively blends strategic design with technical compliance, creating an office that is both beautiful and deeply aligned with its core mission to regulate, develop, and facilitate the industry by embodying the very professionalism, quality, and sustainability it promotes. The design is a powerful statement of purpose that elevates the entire profession and sets a new benchmark in corporate office design.
