Description: To design a double storey show unit with a whimsical feel
Achievement: Silver Winner for Show Units, MIID REKA 2018
Our role: Lead designer, space planning, décor styling

The meandering path through this new township leads towards double storey houses and landscaped social spaces, nestled within a secret garden that evokes a sense of playfulness. We designed two show unit houses to help sell the development, with a brief to create an environment suitable for young families, suited to the whimsical surroundings.

“Playfully balancing reclaimed materials and industrial finishes.”

Aster is a home for a young family who evidently express their bold taste.

Red face brick is used throughout and resembles an exposed feel while providing a backdrop for the carefully sourced loose furniture. Each piece matches the unique characteristics of the home owner’s profile.

Interactive features are incorporated through the application of chalkboard surfaces, such as the entire living room wall where the whole family can demonstrate their creativity.

Children can be found absorbed in their own world, an indoor double story playhouse made from reclaimed timber, nestled between the bedrooms on the landing at the top of the stairs.

Their bedroom continues the theme of imaginative discovery, with walls adorned in customised decals of space exploration and a collage of colourful building blocks.

The master bedroom has a feature cladding wall of reclaimed timber, decorated with a local artist’s zentangle. The versatility of pipework is used to create custom bedside lights, shelving pieces, a dresser table, the children’s bunk bed and dining pendant lighting.
