Description: To design 14 unique apartment types centered around modern,
urban community living
Award: World Gold Winner for Residential High Rise - FIABCI Prix d’Excellence Awards 2015
Our role: Lead designer, space planning, architectural input
To create a sense of community within the overall development including 14 different fully
furnished types for a total of 931 units centered around modern, urban living. We were able to influence some
architectural structural decisions, helping to maximise space within the already compact apartments.
Space was the key and we brought in secret rooms, moving panels and added extra storage wherever possible.
The bathrooms featured sunken baths, something rarely found in a small home.
We took a bold approach on this unit starting with a black and white scheme, splashed with red for added contrast. Texture is introduced through a fine selection of white marble, maple timber laminate, chrome steel and a lush carpet which soften the strong colours.
Functionality and aesthetics are key to the design:
• The sliding mirror panel at the kitchenette and study area provides an increased sense of space by concealing either the study area or the kitchenette, when required.
• The bar counter at the dining area is designed with storage compartments and creates connections to private and social areas.
• The entrance to the Master Bathroom is carefully concealed within the clean lines of the maple laminate wardrobe cabinet doors, and a shoe cabinet is hidden behind black spray painted wall panels
• The television rotates to the Master Bedroom providing flexibility of use and the opaque maple timber and glass sliding panels close to give privacy to the bedroom
• The number of solid walls overall is reduced and sliding panels take their place, increasing light and allowing for better space division
